Following the Mediterranean Diet May Help Women Live Longer

Following the Mediterranean Diet May Help Women Live Longer

.In a study involving over 25,000 female participants, researchers found that those who adhered more strictly to the Mediterranean diet were nearly 25% less likely to die from all causes, cancer, or heart disease.( )

The Mediterranean diet, which includes seafood, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds, and olive oil, is well-known for its beneficial effects on health and wellbeing. Research suggests that following this diet plan can reduce the risk of heart disease, metabolic diseases, and cancer.

( )

Scientists believe that most of these health benefits are due to the diet's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, as well as its potential to help manage weight and prevent diabetes.

Now, a new study suggests that this diet inspired by the cuisines of regions around the Mediterranean Sea may help women reduce the chance of dying from cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and other causes.

( )

The research, published on May 31 in JAMA Network Open, examined the food intake and biomarkers of 25,315 female healthcare professionals in the United States involved in the Women's Health Study from April 1993 to January 1996.

( )

The researchers collected baseline data on 33 blood biomarkers, including lipoprotein, inflammation, insulin resistance, and metabolism measurements. They also gathered dietary information from food-frequency questionnaires and calculated the participants' Mediterranean diet scores, ranging from zero to nine, with nine reflecting the highest adherence.

( )

During a 25-year follow-up, the scientists tracked health outcomes and deaths among the participants.

Eminem releases ‘Houdini’ single with a star-filled music video

Eminem releases ‘Houdini’ single with a star-filled music video

Slim Shady is back, back again. But, apparently, not for long.

Eminem appears to be killing off his alter ego in his latest project, an album titled, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace).”

( )

He has dropped the album’s first single, “Houdini,” which samples the Steve Miller Band’s 1982 hit, “Abracadabra.” His lyrics take aim at several people, including Megan Thee Stallion and even himself.

“If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me, would I really have a shot at a feat?” he raps, referencing Tory Lanez shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the feet in 2020, a crime for which Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison.( )

Eminem also released a music video for the song in which he gets a little help from some of his celebrity friends.

It opens with the 51-year-old rapper’s music manager, Paul Rosenberg, leaving a seemingly less than positive voicemail about the new album before Eminem’s mentor and frequent collaborator, Dr. Dre, tells him, “We’ve got a problem.”

Trump Media Stock Swings After Guilty Verdict

Trump Media Stock Swings After Guilty Verdict

Shares of the Truth Social parent slipped immediately after former President Donald Trump, the company’s largest investor, was convicted in his hush-money trial, before mounting a comeback.( )

Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group whipsawed after former President Donald J. Trump, the company’s largest investor and primary user of its Truth Social platform, was found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to cover up a sex scandal.

Trump Media’s stock began falling immediately after the verdict in Mr. Trump’s trial in Manhattan was announced on Thursday, which came after the stock market had closed. Shares sank by as much as 14 percent at one point before steadily recovering to trade up by 5 percent in premarket trading on Friday.( )

The company’s stock is typically volatile, so such large moves are not unusual, especially after the official close of regular trading, when low trading volumes can accentuate price swings. And much of the stock available to trade is owned by individual investors, many of them fans of the former president. Still, the shares are one of the few ways in which investors can react to the trial in real time, with initial price moves closely tied to news of the verdict.( )

Trump Media remains richly valued relative to the size of its business. Even after its recent decline, the company is worth more than $9 billion in market value. Mr. Trump owns about two-thirds of the company’s shares, a stake worth about $6 billion. The stock has become his main source of wealth since Trump Media make its market debut in March, but he cannot sell or borrow against the shares until September.( )

Trump Media has reported steep losses and modest revenue, which derives from advertising on Truth Social. In the first quarter of this year, the company recorded an operating loss of $12.1 million and $770,000 in revenue, a 30 percent drop in sales from the same period a year ago.( )

On Truth Social, which has become Mr. Trump’s personal megaphone to rail against judges, prosecutors and critics, many users rallied to his defense. The roughly seven million registered users of Truth Social are some of Mr. Trump’s most ardent supporters and many are also investors in Trump Media, which partly explains the sky-high valuation of the company’s shares.

WOLVES Timberwolves fall apart in Game 5 as season ends with 124-103 loss to Dallas

Timberwolves fall apart in Game 5 as season ends with 124-103 loss to Dallas

The Timberwolves season is over after a disappointing loss to the Mavericks. Staff writer Chris Hine provided this live report:( )

10:00 p.m.: Wolves season ends with xx-xx loss to Mavericks in Game 5

Even when the Timberwolves were down 3-0 to the Mavericks, Anthony Edwards was in the team's locker room in Dallas saying he still felt like the Wolves were the better team.

What happened Thursday night ended any idea of that being true, as the Mavericks made quick and lethal work of the Wolves and ended their season with a 124-103 win to clinch the Western Conference finals 4-1.( )

The Wolves experienced all kinds of heartbreak in this series; Dallas star Luka Doncic quickly ripped it apart in Game 2 with a game-winning three-pointer. On Thursday, Doncic and company stomped it into oblivion from the opening minutes when he began the game with 20 first-quarter points.

A playoff ride that featured plenty of highs — sweeping Phoenix and a Game 7 comeback against the defending champion Nuggets — deserved a better ending than what the Wolves gave in Game 5. But any time an exciting ride ends, there's inevitable letdown after the adrenaline rush drips out.( )

The Wolves made their bed to make Game 5 possible earlier in the series, when they couldn't win one of the first two games at home. Their biggest regret of the postseason will be how they performed in front of their home crowd. They were just 3-5 at Target Center in the postseason. They shot just 43% while Dallas shot 55%.( )

The Mavericks did to the Wolves what the Wolves did to the Nuggets in Game 6 in the only Wolves home win of the final two rounds — completely took the life out of them.

First results in South Africa’s election suggest it is heading for biggest political shift since apartheid

First results in South Africa’s election suggest it is heading for biggest political shift since apartheid

Early results from South Africa’s election suggest the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party could lose its majority for the first time in 30 years.

With results in from 22% of polling stations at 4 p.m. local time, support for the ANC stood at 43.5%.( )

The official opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), had 24.7% of the vote, while the far-left Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) – a splinter party of the ANC – had 8.9%, data from the country’s electoral commission showed.

The respected research group CSIR modeled the ANC winning less than 45% of the national poll as of mid-morning on Thursday.( )

Officials of the Independent Electoral Commission have stressed that the official tally could take several days and some larger voting wards could take more time to be tallied.

Once all the votes are counted, if the ANC remains below 50% it will be forced to enter a coalition with one or more parties. Depending on how low its support dips, it may need to form a deal with one of the larger opposition parties such as the DA or EFF to remain in power.( )

Another ANC splinter party, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK), led by former President Jacob Zuma appears to be on course to do well in KwaZulu-Natal, the eastern coastal province where Durban is located. At 10am local time, it had 42.3% of the votes there compared to 20.1% for the ANC.
